Every artistic decision made by Lee Kajin is designed to most effectively represent the medium. She coats her celadons in a blue glaze, as opposed to the usual green, because it is reminiscent of the deep sea. She applies the glaze on thick and fires her celadons at 1280°C so that they mimic the texture of glass or jade. Kajin shapes her celadons to resemble a water drop because it showcases the glaze over the celadon’s entire surface. In addition to her celadons, Kajin has started to experiment with colored clay.
Kajin received her M.F.A in Ceramics, Faculty of Crafts & Design, College of Fine Arts, Seoul National University, Korea.
